Simula has conducted extensive Sdevelopment, testing, and optimization of Zylon® fabrics for protection against fragment, handgun, and small-arms projectiles. The ultra-lightweight soft body armor stemming from this research has proven capable of meeting the stringent NIJ III-A Performance standards at an areal 2 density of 0.71 lb/ft . Compared to other leading NIJ III-A vest designs, Simula’s vest not only offers Significantly lighter weight, but reduced blunt trauma, and a high V50 ballistic threshold.

Ultra-Lightweight

 

Simula has developed a new ultra lightweight soft body
armor technology. A novel textile architecture combined
with the new Zylon® fiber allows for significant weight
reduction in soft body armor vests. The Simula soft body
armor is 30% lighter than conventional vests which are
2 near 1.0 lb/ft and 13% lighter than the lightest Zylon®
vest currently available in the commercial marketplace.
